The Miracle Fruit Conspiracy
This is the miracle fruit - one of earths plant based sweeteners - as well as Stevia, Monfruit and Chinese Blackberry.
The plant is grown in tropical climates, native to West Africa but also grows in tropical India, Australia and the USA.
Miraculin the active protein constituent in miracle fruit possesses the property of turning sour molecules sweet by binding to G protein coupled taste receptors on the tongue - it’s one of earths natural plant based sweeteners. Check out the diagram below.
Miracle Fruit has been reported in studies to reduce insulin resistance, obesity and inhibit cancer cell proliferation and malignant transformation in cellular studies.

Conspiracy….
In the 1960s, Robert Harvey, a biochemical postgraduate student, was introduced to miracle fruit. After contemplating the potential of the fruit, he decided to found the Miralin Company. Dedicated to providing a healthy alternative to both sugar and sweeteners, Miralin pushed forward with very successful product testing.
In 1974, Harvey began to believe he was being followed from work to his home. After that, cars were seen driving past Miralin’s offices, with someone inside taking photographs. And then, one summer’s night, the Miralin Company’s office was burgled. In the middle of the ransacked office floor lay open Miralin’s FDA file.
Miralin promoted literature (Strangely no picture of Dr Robert Harvey on Google 👀)
On the eve of Miralin’s launch, the FDA suddenly banned the use of miraculin, labelling it as an additive. This meant that their product could not be sold as a sugar substitute without further, and very expensive, testing. Years of testing miraculin eventually bankrupted the Miralin Company and to this day the FDA has never overturned their ruling.
Plant Based Sweetener ?
Miracle fruit or isolating the compound miraculin could be used as a natural low calories sweetener with the potential to replace artificial sweeteners. Without FDA approval it would be difficult to produce this commercially. Plenty of animal research states that Miracle Fruit is an effective tool to lower blood blood pressure and protect liver enzymes in diabetics.
